As an experienced outdoor pest control service, Tussey Enterprises features numerous services to transform your yard into a peaceful place for you and your family. Our Barrier Spray treatment protects your yard for approx 21-28 days at a time. For home and business owners that are more concerned with chemical insecticides we also offer an All-Natural Mosquito control treatment option that repels mosquitoes for 14 days at a time.

Barrier Spray

Our trained technicians will treat your yard with an effective barrier spray that eliminates biters for 21-28 days. Using a backpack sprayer designed for precise application, your technician targets shrubs and plants with a barrier spray that kills mosquitoes on contact and bonds to foliage, where it acts as a mosquito repellent for weeks to come. Within 30 minutes of spraying, your yard is ready for family and pets to come out and play.

Our barrier spray is also an ideal solution for commercial and recreational areas! Responsible mosquito pest control solutions that target biting insects help municipalities and businesses keep visitors at outdoor spaces comfortable and helps protect from insect-borne disease.

Most barrier spray chemicals we use are synthetic forms of pyrethrins called pyrethroids. Pyrethrins are insecticides that are derived from a naturally occurring compound called pyrethrum found in the chrysanthemum flower. Pyrethroids are used in numerous commercial products that consumers use to control insects such as household pest insecticides, pet shampoos and sprays, and even lice shampoos applied directly to the scalp. Our standard barrier spray treatment is effective on other pests such as fleas, ticks and some flies as well which makes it ideal for not only kids but pets as well.

The All-Natural Mosquito Control Treatment

As an alternative to our longer-lasting synthetic treatment, we offer an all-natural mosquito pest control solution. If you prefer to avoid all synthetics, Tussey Enterprsises offers an all-natural solution as an ideal alternative for mosquito control. While our Barrier Protection Spray works primarily as a mosquito and tick eliminator, our all-natural treatment eliminates pests on contact and then continues as a repellent for up to 14 days.

Our all-natural mosquito treatment is applied to the areas of your property that mosquitoes are known to harbor and feed. It is made up of natural oils and has a slight fragrance that dissipates within a few hours of application.

This technique is also administered through a barrier spray program. Our all-natural solution repels mosquitoes immediately, however has less adhesive properties than synthetic spray. The all-natural solution will act as a repellent to deter new mosquitoes for a shorter time period and requires spraying on a 14-day cycle to ensure adequate protection. Since this all-natural mosquito control breaks down more quickly, it needs to be applied every 14 days for continuous protection (as opposed to the 21-28 day cycle of our Barrier Protection Spray).

For optimum protection, season-long control is highly recommended, every 21 days. Tussey Enterprises will remind you in advance of an upcoming service and leave you notice that we’ve been there. You don’t even need to be home during the application.

How Do Our Treatments Work?

All mosquito control services can be scheduled at your convenience, whether you are at home or not. As long as your property is accessible, you can trust your technician to let you know your yard has been treated as we will leave a door marker with updates and future treatments.

During your first treatment, our technicians inspect your property and treat standing water, a potential mosquito breeding site, with a larvacide. This interrupts the life cycle of the mosquito at the larvae stage, potentially limiting them of their progression to adulthood. Our technicians will then treat the yard to eliminate any adult mosquitoes currently on your property with our Professional Mist spraying technique with a chemical insecticide or all natural spray. This also builds a barrier against any mosquitoes that enter your yard after treatment from other areas. A technician will then return to your property approximately 3-4 weeks to maintain the barrier.

Tussey Enterprises trained technicians treat areas where mosquitoes feed and harbor. We treat the surfaces under the leaves of shrubbery, gardens, along fences, and tall grasses and low hanging vegetation.

Why Should I be worried about Mosquitoes?

  • Every time a mosquito "bites" you, and its always a female and she's really feeding, theres a chance she'll leave you with a little "Thanks you gift..." one of several viral diseases.
  • LaCrosse encephalitis accounts for 50 cases in West Virginia each year and directly effects children.
  • West Nile Virus typically effects the elderly more and was first found in West Virginia in 2002 and has since been documented in dead birds, horses and humans.
  • Mosquitoes account for 725,000 Deaths per year world wide.

    We also Treat ticks!

VECTOR-BORNE ILLNESSES

Mosquitoes, ticks and fleas are more than pesky pests, they’re a real health concern. They can carry various diseases that are harmful to humans and pets. Illnesses like Zika, Lyme Disease, West Nile and other insect-borne diseases have been on the rise in recent years.

Mosquitoes and Ticks expose us to many insect-borne diseases and Tussey Enterprises is the answer to keeping your family, including your pets, protected. Because we know every yard is unique, our treatments are custom to each individual property for effective results.

Ticks and Flea Treatment

Ticks arrive once ground temperature is above 45 degrees Fahrenheit, so it’s important to have a plan in place in advance.Ticks can carry the pathogens for ten human diseases and spread illnesses such as

  • Lyme disease
  • Rocky Mountain spotted fever
  • Anaplasmosis
  • St. Louis encephalitis
  • tick paralysis
  • canine ehrlichiosis

Pet owners and parents are concerned with tick prevention because a tick bite can have serious implications for children and pets. Five of the ten diseases ticks transmit to humans can be transmitted to pets. That is why keeping everyone (furry or not) around your household tick free is important.

Property Control to limit ticks:

  • Keep grass mowed and trees trimmed.
  • Move wood piles away from the home.
  • Keep pets out of thickly wooded areas where tick activity is high.
  • Move swing sets, sandboxes, and other play areas away from wooded areas.
  • Wear long sleeves and pants when walking in wooded or grassy areas to avoid tick bites.
  • Wash clothing immediately after coming inside and inspect kids and pets for ticks.

Ticks cannot jump or fly, they can only crawl. They sit on the tips of grass and shrubs while patiently waiting for hosts. When brushed by a moving animal or person, ticks quickly let go of the vegetation and climb onto the host. To avoid this, use prevention methods to keep ticks out of your yard and let Tussey Enterprises spray your yard and set up a barrier for these intruders. Since barrier sprays target shrubbery, we target where ticks live while waiting for a host.

Most people know the common annoyances of fleas for cats, dogs, and sometimes even humans. Their bites are itchy, their saliva can be an allergen causing rashes, and they can cause skin problems when your cat or dog scratches incessantly. However, most people don’t realize is that fleas actually carry diseases just like mosquitoes and ticks.

Fleas find hosts and those hosts are warm-blooded animals. Naturally they are usually dogs and cats, but they can also be opossums, rats, and other rodents.

Fleas can bite up to 400 times a day so you should have a flea prevention plan in place to keep your home and pets protected. If you have pets, veterinarians recommend a monthly flea and tick preventative given once a month during all seasons. An important supplement to that is treating your yard to keep it flea-free.

Our mosquito control services also kill and prevent fleas and ticks, so let Tussey Enterprises be your first line of defense against these disease-carrying pests.

FAQS:

Is this an organic product?

  • No, the product that we use for our standard treatment is not organic, but we do offer an all-natural option. Our all-natural option confuses and repels insects by using a scent that insects find unattractive. Fortunately, our noses are not quite as sensitive, so you will detect only a mild odor that dissipates within a few hours of application. In order for the natural treatment to remain effective, treatments must occur every 14 days, as opposed to the 21- day cycle of our traditional solution.

Can children and adults enter the yard during a Mosquito treatment?

  • When treating a yard, we ask that the homeowner and children stay inside while we treat and for 30 minutes after the treatment is completed, which allows the product to dry. After that, they are free to enjoy their backyards and other outdoor living spaces.

How long does it take to do the barrier spray treatment and how long will it last?

  • A typical treatment will average about 20 minutes. Larger yards may take longer to treat. Each treatment lasts approximately 2 weeks, at which time our team will be scheduled to treat your yard again.

Do you spray the grass?

  • Not generally, mosquitoes do not usually seek shelter in the grass. Our goal in doing a pre-spray walk of the property is to seek out the "hot spots" where mosquitos will be loafing. The most common areas to find mosquitos during the day include: the underside of the leaves of dense/shrubby plants, under decks and in damp shady areas of the property. We do recommend that you keep your grass short during the mosquito season. In some cases such as special events like weddings and large outdoor parties, we will spray the grass where your guests will be. We will however treat the grass for fleas if needed.

Does your treatment get rid of any other pests?

  • The standard barrier spray treatment is effective on not only mosquitoes but also fleas, ticks and some flies. The products we use are very similar to those found in pet shampoos and medicines used to treat these other pests.

What chemicals are being used in my yard and are they safe? What about for my plants/pond/pets/kids?

    • The two main products used in our mosquito treatment. The first is an all-natural product that we use around ponds, vegetable gardens, flowering shrubs and flowers to keep them safe and not harm our pollinators. Our main barrier spray chemicals are synthetic forms of pyrethrins called pyrethroids. Pyrethrins are insecticides that are derived from the extract of chrysanthemum flowers. Pyrethroids are used in numerous commercial products that consumers use to control insects such as household insecticides, pet shampoos and sprays, and even lice shampoos. We spray this chemical on shrubs, low lying trees, your foundation, mulch beds, etc. As it is a plant derivative, it will not harm plants. All chemicals we use are EPA approved. You, your children and your pets should not be outside during the application of the spray treatment, but you may return to your outdoor fun after allowing 30 minutes for the treatment to dry.

Do you treat indoor pest problems as well?

    • Tussey Enterprises only features outdoor pest control services. If mosquitoes and other bugs are coming in through open doors, our outside efforts may reduce inside annoyances

Does anyone need to be home when the yard is treated? How will I know if the treatment was done if I’m not home?

    • No. As long as your gate is unlocked and your pets are inside, our technician can treat. Our trained professionals will obtain any information pertinent to your location (i.e. locked gate) when you sign up. Your technician will leave a door hanger upon completion of your treatment so you will know your yard has been serviced. Information on this door hanger will include your date and time of service as well as any comments and helpful hints the technician may have to help you keep your yard as uninviting as possible for mosquitos, ticks and other pests.

What if it rains after my yard has been treated?

    • As long as your yard has had adequate time to dry after the application of your treatment (approximately 30 minutes), rain should not impact the effectiveness of your service. However, our Tussey Enterprises Guarantee ensures that if the quality of your barrier spray service is affected by rain, we will return to your yard to ensure you are mosquito-free until your next scheduled service.

    How much does it cost?

    • Each property is unique and we customize each barrier spray application to successfully treat your mosquito problem. We price our applications based on the size and density of foliage of your property and the amount of chemical that we will need to use. You can contact us any time for a free quote and we usually don’t even need to visit your property. Our trained agents will be able to take your property address, look it up using our computer program, and assess your property size to give you an accurate quote.

    Do you service commercial accounts?

    • Absolutely. Our barrier sprays are a great solution for many commercial businesses such as restaurants with patios, parks, campgrounds, public pools and playgrounds, sports fields, daycares, outdoor wedding venues, schools and more.
